Intercepted outgoing message from Miranda Lawson's voicemail account (intended recipient unknown):

"Let me tell you something about Kai Leng.  We were best friends during Cerberus training.  I know, right?  It's so embarrassing.  I don't even...  Whatever.  So then during the Lazarus Project, I started trying to resurrect Commander Shepard, and even though she was dead Kai was like, weirdly jealous of her.  Like, if I would blow him off to mess around with Shepard's new spleen or whatever, he'd be like, 'Why didn't you call me back?'  And I'd be like, 'Why are you so obsessed with me?'  So then, for my shore leave party, which was an all good-guys pool party, I was like, 'Kai, I can't invite you, because I think you're a homicidal maniac.'  I mean, I couldn't have a homicidal maniac at my party.  There were gonna be heroes there who were saving the galaxy.  I mean, right?  He was EVIL.  So then the Illusive Man called Commander Shepard and started yelling at her--it was so retarded.  And then he got all these cyber-implants and ninja skills and thought he could kill Shepard, and now I guess he's impaled."

---

I know, I know--there's characters missing.  I really wanted to include Grunt, Wrex, Javik, Samara, EDI... maybe even Daniels, Donnelly, Chakwas, Hackett, Urz and space hamster.  But the scene was getting pretty crowded (it's maybe too crowded already), and I had to cut it off somewhere.  :(

I've probably had this idea in my head ever since seeing this amazing piece by morgenty, so it's definitely at least partially inspired by that.  (And Miranda's message was inspired by a friend who's somehow never seen "Mean Girls", so hopefully she'll fix that problem soon, if she hasn't already...  ;) )

The 2 that spent the entire game guarding a door?  LOL.  I'd probably invite Daniels & Donnelly, and Adams and Chakwas first, and even... *gulp*... Allers, but they're probably ALL around there somewhere, just out of frame.

I bet that even that guy who does nothing but walk around Decks 2 and 3 saluting Shepard got an invite...  :D

On my list of worst villains of all time Kai Leng is number 2, beaten only by Hugo Strange from Arkham City.

Yeah, he does suck.

[SPOILER AHEAD]

In the seventh issue of the Mass Effect: Foundation comic, the Illusive Man sends him and Maya Brooks after Jack and she kicks both of their asses really hard. One of the most satisfying moments in the ME comics. :D

Whaaa?  Kai Lame is supposed to have plot armor that he's fully aware of and the ability to reduce main characters to levels of incompetence they should be incapable of.  Are you sure it was Kai Lame?

Apparently the pool model might've come from one of the Sims games.  I don't know.  I found it here: oo-fil-oo.deviantart.com/art/S… , and the origin of it isn't listed, so...  Building the setting is always one of the most tedious things in doing these pics, and the ones you put together yourself never look as good as something from the games, just cuz there are fewer models of structural/architectural bits & pieces to work with, so it's nice when you find something like this that's already complete and well-detailed.  The only frustrating part of using it was that it's already lit, so it was difficult to try to light the characters correctly (it wouldn't have been so bad if the lighting on the pool setting had stayed the same, but it changes, too, as you adjust the scene's lighting :slamhead: )...

Haha ooooh my god I'm so embarrassed right now :D No, she still hasn't fixed the Mean Girl problem, but she will, and soon :D

Great atmosphere you got going here, bonus points for sneaky Kasumi :D Oh, and I have an idea how to fix the "didn't get included" - make MOAR of this with different characters! And well probably bigger pool for Grunt :D

  That's cool--I still haven't seen Shawshank yet, either, tho I have at least borrowed the disc from someone and plan to get around to it in the next few days...

Thank you!   Sneaky Kasumi is sneaky, right?  Ninja I probably won't do anymore pics in this particular setting, cuz there are things I don't really like about the model, but I would like to do something at the beach eventually.  So a (semi-)naked krogan model becoming eventually available would definitely get me working on that...

Haha, omg... Now I'm feeling irrationally overprotective and worried you won't like that movie :D :D I'll watch Mean Girls over the weekend, I promise, it's just I started yet another try in tackling Dark Souls (and failing miserably), so hopefully I'll have time for a movie :)

OOooooh, beach, yes! Make beach! Btw is it harder to make pictures with light background than dark background? Or it doesn't matter? For some reason I've noticed most 3D works are always kinda...darkish. Is it for a reason, or is it me?

Huh--I actually had the opposite impression.  :o   It's always seemed to me that the majority of 3D art--at least, the stuff created in xnalara/XPS--tends to be very bright, cuz you have a lot of people using it who aren't very experienced with it, and they just leave the default lighting as-is.  That's fine when you're posing the scene, because it makes it easy to see your work, but for the finished product I think it makes the whole thing look a little too fake and toy-like.  One of the best things a newbie to XPS can do to start making their stuff look better is to play around with the lighting settings: add a 2nd or 3rd source, change the angles, intensity, and colors, deepen the shadows, etc...

But to answer your question: no, it doesn't really make much difference if the scene is light or dark.  Neither present any extra difficulties than the other.  What does become a challenge is when you're trying to combine something done in XPS in the foreground with a screenshot or photo in the background, because then you have to try to match your scene to the pre-existing lighting conditions (and of all the 3D posing programs, XPS probably has the most basic, limited lighting options to work with :slamhead: ).

LOL, I'll do a beach pic eventually.  Not real eager to do another piece this big anytime soon... but if someone makes a naked krogan model, I'll definitely consider doing it sooner (I promise I'll put him in the water up to his waist, if not higher, or else find him some jumbo swim trunks ;) )...

Don't worry--I'm sure I'm going to enjoy it.  :)  I'm a big fan of Stephen King and Morgan Freeman, so it's got 2 things in its favor already...

Hmmm....maybe it's just me then. The only over-lighted pics I can remember now are the ones we talked about the other day - p0rn and stuff. Granted I have not looked for 3D fanart specifically, it's just what I've seen from all the ME groups.

And you know, all this sounds so horribly complicated, I'm totally sure now I'll stick to my humble pencil skills :D

LOL he can use a...leftover tent or something like that for his swimshorts :D

Yeah, that's true: I'd say most of the ones that use the default lighting (and in many cases, the default ground texture) are p0rn-ish pics that look like they were thrown together in 5 or 10 minutes.   Maybe the more serious artists use darker lighting not only because it just looks nicer and creates more of an atmosphere, but also to set it apart from that other form of xnalara "art".

It's really not complicated at all.  ;)  All you need is a halfway-decent artistic eye and some patience (knowledge of the most basic functions in photoshop or gimp is useful, too).  If you're willing to put in a few hours or a few days (off-and-on) working on it and tweaking it then you'll probably eventually end up with something you're happy with.

Heh, I'd trade for your "humble pencil skills" any day.  :worship:  I've spent a lot of time the last few days looking thru thousands of models trying to find a couple of really simple things (found one of 'em; not as successful on the other :( ).  But if it were you, you'd just draw 'em and be done in a few minutes...

Ugh, don't even remind me of those pictures....it actually looks the farther it goes, the more crazier it gets; as I mentioned earlier - what was seen can't be unseen :D It's not like I hate 3D modelled erotic pics, some of them are just...unf, but majority...oh well.

Says the person who is like one of the top 3D ME modellers on this site :D Nah, I understand - it's just practice and patience, like any other art form. The thing is I suspect I'd get bored soon, because now I kinda realise I prefer making traditional art over digital anyway - my laptop gives me creeps when making art :D so...

Haha, oh man.... if only it was THAT easy :D I rummage the net for hours no end to find a decent reference picture that I can somehow use - trust me, it's not as simple as just drawing a sketch, at least not for me, sadly :(

 :highfive:

It was originally uploaded by ethaclane, with Jack's head and an accurately-proportioned body, but a very low-res body texture (but it was a good start).  Then Lovelymaiden decided to try to create a much more detailed hi-res texture.  I was lucky to get an early in-progress version of it from her, which I touched up where I could to get rid of some of the rough spots, and have been using that ever since.  (The downside to it is that I can only ever show it from the front, since the back is still a complete mess. :( )

I don't know if she's made any progress on it lately, but here's where LM stood with hers a few months ago: www.deviantart.com/art/Nude-Ja…
