"...Now I'm gonna get laid. And by extraordinary coincidence, so are you."

Inspired by the famous Times Square VJ Day kiss photo (and if you don't know what that is, Google Image Search is your friend). I tried to replicate it as closely as I could, but while Miranda wasn't too difficult, Jack was a real challenge. I'd swear that sailor's shoulders are turned 120 degrees from his waist. So I just focused on copying the upper body, then when I was satisfied, adjusted the lower half into a complementary pose.

Created in xnalara.

Don't know if this a popular thought, but I think this piece of art would be better if Jack we're holding Miranda while kneeling...But as it is it's great, and I love it. Well done!

Thank you, I'm glad you liked it. :D

Like I said in the descrip, their pose is based on the famous sailor/nurse Times Square VJ Day kiss. Everything else around them is entirely made up by me, but that kiss is such an iconic image of the spontaneous celebration of war's end that I really wanted to re-create it as closely as I could. :)

I am aware and I think it's a good reference, I'm only offering my opinion for the sake of the overall art, it is a great likeness to the VJ Day Kiss. I just think that if Miranda was on the ground, wounded it would make for a more dramatic image. Still can't complain with overall result or the reference to it. Good Job :)

Well, maybe that's a good idea for a whole new piece. The only thing is, tho, I don't think my photoshop skills are up to adding realistic blood & dirt to Miranda's face, so I worry that it might look like she'd just tripped or somehow fallen down...

indeed
but seriously now, it's a pretty good picture and the pose is quite well done
and despite being a model slapped on a background (if I read the description correctly, that is = P) it looks very natural
as in, it looks as if you've done it all (posing the models, loading the map, all that)

Yep, you read it correctly--that's exactly what it is. Each little scene--Jack/Miri, the man & woman behind 'em, the guy on the far left who's overcome by it all--was created separately, then I had to decide where on the flat image they were going to be placed, and figure out what the correct camera angle and distance would be for each one. It was time-consuming, and a real pain in some cases, but I'm really happy with the final result. Glad to hear you like it, too--thanks!

Yeah
only "problem" would be the legs, as they stand out more than the rest of the bodies, but I'd say that's mostly because of the brightness difference between the ground and the rest
also I've checked out your gallery, gotta say you do a rather good job with the poses, they look quite natural
because lemme tell ya, I've seen other "posings" around, and dear jesus vampire-hunting christ do they look stiff and robotic XD

Thanks for looking. I'm... kinda proud of what I've done so far, so it's always cool to hear from someone else who thinks they're not bad, too. :)

I think I know the sort of "other" stuff you're talking about. I guess it depends on how much time each person wants to put into their works. You make something in 10 minutes, you're going to end up with something that... looks like it was made in 10 minutes. For me, I've always had the desire but not the talent to be an artist, so this is a way to finally be able to fulfill that dream a little bit, and I'm trying my absolute best with each piece to try to make it as good as it can possibly be. (And I generally start out with reference photos for most of them, so that definitely helps make the poses more realistic.)

Not sure I see what you do with the legs, but the people models have a higher resolution than the screencap used as the background, so that could be part of it, too...

I was actually talking about the lowest part of the legs, particularly the feet, I think a bit of blurring there would've helped = P
and yeah, I find it impressive to pull poses like this because I find it a bit mind-bending how one can get poses like these using a mouse of all things (I can't without my fingers on the models, so I just keep myself to just posing dolls and figurines, and even at that I suck XD)
then again, my only experience with digital modeling was Gmod = P

I'm well acquainted with the WW2 pic you mention, the sailor kissing the nurse in Times-Square. That would be a difficult pose, but you handled it well!!!! :)

Thank you! It was tricky, but honestly, the Vega/Cortez version was a lot tougher, because they're both broader around the chests and shoulders, and it was harder to get their lips to meet. If I'd done that one first, Jack/Miranda would've seemed like a breeze by comparison.

I just wish I could figure out what the deal is with the lower half of that sailor's body. The angle of his feet vs. his shoulders just makes no sense to me...

You brought it off well, sometimes I've had to modify a pose because I can't quite get it looking exactly like the scene I've found!!! I just bought a WW2 magazine the other day, by coincidence it had that famous kissing pic in it, I'll have to examine it again to see what you're describing about the sailor's lower body!!! :)

LOL, yeah, I do, but at the same time I was very careful to make sure that no one else in the scene was looking anywhere near them, because I didn't want it to look like a frat party. I threw out a couple of the early versions of the background characters, even tho everything else about them looked good, because I felt like it could be interpreted that they were looking at J/M and cheering THEM on...

The Jack/Miranda part of it was a little tedious, but actually, that wasn't the hardest part. Not even close. It was filling out the rest of the scene. How many people to add? Too few, and it looks empty. Too many, and it's too cluttered. And then there was the fact that I wasn't putting them all together in a 3D setting in xnalara--I was placing them on a flat, 2D image, which meant trying to gauge angles and distances... Ugh. Over the span of several days, I bet I spent 12-15 hours on it.

But yeah, I think the final result was worth it. Glad you like it, too. :D

I noticed your comment in that new MShep hoodie model post that you were having trouble getting xnalara to work. Did you also install the Microsoft XNA framework? If not, then that's your problem.

I kind of gave up trying to install it...but I'll have another go. Pretty sure I installed XNA Framework, but worth it's another try. Got the floor come up, but no sign of Lara or anything I'd unzipped and put into the data file. So I uninstalled evrything and did it again and the second it was just white;nada...won't give up though, seen some good work with it...thank you, kind person!

Well, if the program started up okay, then you installed the XNA framework, so that's not the problem.

To get the models you're trying to use to appear, are you clicking "File", then "Add model(s)"? Because they're not loaded automatically when starting the program just by putting them in the data folder. (If you knew that already, I apologize, but the way you described it made it unclear.) Also, when doing "File" -> "Add model(s)", try selecting "place in front of camera" at the bottom, then after OKing it, go to "Options", uncheck "Display ground", and rotate the camera all around looking for the model; sometimes they're imported low, underneath the ground, and need to be raised up.

Beyond that, without being there to see what you're doing, not sure what else I can tell you. Hope you can get it figured out--I'd love to see what you could do with it...
